On 14 May 2024, MENAWET organised a full-day workshop dedicated to the protection and restoration of wetlands.
The morning session introduced the main concepts and basic principles of wetland protection and restoration. Practical case studies were presented to illustrate different restoration approaches and encourage participants to compare methods, challenges and lessons learned from field experience.
.
The afternoon session focused on wetland conservation in the Middle East and North Africa. Participants reviewed the role of the Ramsar Convention in the region and explored the Ramsar Wetland City Accreditation concept, which recognises cities committed to the conservation and wise use of wetlands.
The workshop created an opportunity for participants to strengthen their knowledge, exchange experiences and discuss approaches that can support more effective wetland conservation and restoration across the MENA region.
