On 3 December 2025, the MENAWET workshop on the challenges of wetland restoration in the southern Mediterranean concluded with the participation of representatives from eleven Arab countries.
.
The workshop brought together wetland specialists and stakeholders from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq and Yemen. Participants shared knowledge, field experience and perspectives on the ecological, technical and institutional challenges affecting wetland restoration across the region.
.
Organised as part of the MENAWET project activities, the workshop contributed to the development of a regional network of wetland experts. This network aims to facilitate cooperation, strengthen access to regional expertise and encourage the exchange of practical solutions between countries facing comparable environmental pressures. By connecting specialists from across the region, MENAWET is helping build a shared platform for learning and collaboration in support of more effective wetland protection and restoration.
