From 8 to 10 January 2025, the MENAWET project was presented during the African Regional Preparatory Meeting of the Convention on Wetlands, held in Marrakech and organised by Morocco’s National Agency for Water and Forests, ANEF, in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention.

The meeting brought together representatives and wetland stakeholders from across Africa to discuss regional priorities, challenges and contributions ahead of the next Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Convention.

The presentation provided an opportunity to introduce MENAWET’s regional approach, its first wetland restoration sites and its efforts to strengthen cooperation, knowledge exchange and technical expertise across the Middle East and North Africa.

MENAWET’s participation also helped connect the project with the wider Ramsar community and explore opportunities for collaboration in support of wetland conservation, restoration and designation throughout the region.
