On 30 September 2024, MENAWET organised a regional workshop in Tunisia, bringing together partners involved in the project’s first four wetland restoration sites across the MENA region.

The workshop featured the active participation of focal points from Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Jordan and Algeria. It provided an opportunity to share progress, exchange field experience and strengthen cooperation between the participating countries.

Participants also visited the Garaet El Haouaria wetland, the first MENAWET restoration site in Tunisia. Restoration activities at the site are being implemented in partnership with the local organisation ASPEN Cap Bon, with funding from the MENAWET regional initiative.
The field visit allowed participants to better understand the site’s ecological context, the restoration measures underway and the importance of local partnerships in translating regional objectives into practical action.
