On 24 September 2025, a consultation meeting was held at the headquarters of the Municipality of Soliman in Tunisia. Organised by MENAWET’s local partner, the Association for Environment and Development in Soliman, AEDS, the meeting introduced the concept and planned activities of a new wetland restoration project supported by the MENAWET regional initiative.
.
The consultation brought together local stakeholders to discuss the ecological challenges affecting the site, the proposed restoration approach and opportunities for cooperation throughout the project’s implementation.
.
Participants then visited Sebkhet Soliman, a Ramsar-designated wetland and the second MENAWET demonstration site in Tunisia, following Garaet El Haouaria. The field visit provided an opportunity to better understand the site’s ecological characteristics, the pressures it faces and the local context in which the restoration project will be developed.
.
Through this participatory approach, MENAWET and AEDS aim to ensure that the project is informed by local knowledge and implemented in collaboration with the institutions, organisations and communities connected to the wetland.
